Available Investment Programs

Taxes
- Job tax credits ranging from US$500 - $2,500 per new employee for
up to 5 years are available but can not be more than 50% of income
tax liability - level of tax credit is dependant upon county where
new employment is created.
- Investment tax credits ranging from 1-8% on investments of US$50,000
- $5 million, but can not be more than 50% of income tax liability
- level of tax credit is dependent upon county where new investment
is made.
- Investment tax credits on investments of US$5 million or greater
range from 6-10% and may be claimed for 10 years.
- Research and development tax credits are permitted at a rate of
10% of research expenses - and cannot exceed 50% of total income tax
liability.
- Ports activity job tax and investment tax credits offer companies
tax credits of US$2,500 - $3,500 per employee or a 5% investment tax
credit if they increase their port tonnage traffic by preset amounts
- companies creating 400 or more new jobs, investing US$20 million
or more, and increasing port activity by 20% over base year can use
both tax credits.
- Eligible manufacturing machinery, primary materials, pollution control
equipment, and production electricity is exempt from sales and use
taxes.
- Counties can exempt companies from property tax on materials, good-in-process,
and finished goods.
Employee Training
- Retraining tax credits are available to employers for 50% of retraining
costs - up to a maximum of US$500 per employee and cannot exceed 50%
of income tax liability.
- Companies are eligible for a US$150 tax credit for each employee
that completes an approved employer provided skills education program.
- Department of Technical and Adult Training provides free of cost
screening, recruiting, and job training for new and expanding companies.
- Department of Education offers without charge pre-employment as
well as on-the-job training for new and expanding companies.
