About the Canadian Automotive Partnership Council

Working Groups

To assist the Canadian Automotive Partnership Council in fulfilling its mandate, five working groups have been created to address key competitive areas identified by the industry. Each working group is chaired by a CAPC member. The working groups, which meet at regular intervals, have been asked to identify key issues affecting their respective areas of responsibility, and to formulate action plans for addressing them.

Advanced Vehicle Technologies Adoption

The focus of the Advanced Vehicle Technologies Adoption Working Group is on challenges related to the adoption of advanced vehicle technologies and the enabling infrastructure required to support these advanced technologies.

Trade Agreements and Border Issues

The Trade Agreements and Border Issues Working Group is mandated to ensure that trade policies and trade relationships enhance the business case for automotive investments in Canada, and to study the impact of Canada-U.S. border flows and throughput on auto industry costs and efficiency, as well as to provide recommendations for improvement.

Innovation and Commercialization

The focus of the Innovation and Commercialization Working Group is on the current climate for innovation-related activities in Canada's automotive sector and government-sponsored programs versus other jurisdictions. In its review, the working group also ensures that process innovation is comprehended along with product innovation.

Manufacturing Competitiveness

The objectives of the Manufacturing Competitive Working Group are to analyze and benchmark the competitiveness of manufacturing in Ontario against other jurisdictions with whom Ontario competes for mandates and investments. The evaluation includes, but is not limited to, taxes, manufacturing and investment incentives, utility and input costs, productivity, operating costs, benefit compensation frameworks and currency exchange rate sensitivities.
